Safety Representative Training

An important assignment

The role of a safety representative is an important one! With us, you'll receive the proper training through our course. We offer the course both online and in person – whichever suits you best.

The duties of a safety representative are both important and engaging. A safety representative serves as the voice of their colleagues in the crucial work of ensuring a safe and healthy work environment, and every employer values strong collaboration with those who are committed to workplace safety.

Every company with at least five employees must have a safety representative. The number of representatives is determined through agreement between the employer and employees. It’s often appropriate to have at least one representative for manual workers and one for office staff. You do not need to be a union member to become a safety representative.

At Byggsäkerhet we offer training in both Swedish and English, and the course is available both online or on-site, depending on your preference.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve compiled some frequently asked questions below.

Do yo have any questions that we havn’t answered yet? Email us at info@byggsakerhet.se and we’ll get back to you!

Doesn’t a safety representative have to be a member of the union?

If the union is to appoint the safety representative, they are usually strict that the person is also a member, and the collective agreements also stipulate that it is the union’s representative who must apply. If you do not have such an agreement, the company can have a safety representative who is not unionized. The sixth chapter of the Work Environment Act does not therefore require that the representative is unionized, but for most construction companies, the representative must still be a member.

If there is a collective agreement with the building – how does it go to become a safety representative?

The employees appoint the safety representative – the employer does not have anything to do with who becomes the representative, but it is of course good if it is a person who is good at cooperating with the company management and can get involved in rules, agreements and agreements.

Who is responsible for the safety representative having the right competence?

It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that safety representatives have the right skills.

What do you get for becoming an agent? A salary increase?

No, it would not work. The safety representative must be completely without such hooks from the employer. It is an important task and you get to learn a lot that is good for the company and your friends. Today, everyone is concerned that company management and safety representatives work together for everyone’s safety.

We do not have a safety representative – what should our company do?

Actually, there is always a safety representative even if you have not apointed one yourselves. If you do not have your own you can always turn to one of the regional safety representatives. They are very grateful for establishing a good contact. It is of course best to have your own safety representative on site, and it is usually best when company management and safety representatives attend work environment training together, then the collaboration is based on an early stage and you can decide directly how you want to arrange safety in the company.
