Anyone who has taken the BAS P or the BAS U course need to update their certificate every few years. That’s why we offer the BAS PU Update Course. Byggsäkerhet is the training partner that will give you the relevant provisions in English translation. No other official translations are available.
The Swedish Work Environment Agency has launched a completely new structure for all regulations and that there have been a lot of updates in recent years. The regulations and provisions on construction and construction work has been completely revised and entered into force on 1 January 2025 under the designation AFS 2023:3, and with additions in AFS 2023:13, chapter 5.
For every building and construction work, there must be a construction environment coordinator for the planning and design (BAS-P) and execution (BAS-U). This also applies to smaller works of a service nature. It is the client who appoints the construction environment coordinator. Those who are appointed must be able to prove BAS PU education, competence and experience to take that role. The training requirement applies from 1 January 2011. The client can hand over all of his responsibility and all of his duties regarding the work environment to a contractor, general or general contractor. The prerequisite is that the assignment is carried out independently and that there is a written agreement on the transfer of responsibility.
At Byggsäkerhet we have examples of BAS PU from simpler construction projects to the really large assignments with several thousand construction workers involved, many with temporary assignments. A seemingly simple painting job can be more dangerous in terms of risk than cleaning up materials and substances hazardous to health.
The training for BAS PU is common for both the planning function and for execution and is based on mutual insight and cooperation, while at the same time we must be able to answer many of the more difficult questions from detailed regulations in many different contexts.
The training is aimed at you who are a client, project manager or responsible in construction and civil engineering work as well as you who will work as a construction environment coordinator BAS P and/or BAS U.
Everyone who works under the BAS P/BAS U function must have documentation of education and knowledge. The BAS P/BAS U Certification course provides proof of competence after completing the exam.
You have done the BAS PU course, perhaps the latest five years. You also have some basic computing skills and good understanding in English. Experience in construction is mandatory.
The course gives you the basic updated knowledge about work environment responsibility and how work environment issues must be taken into account from planning and projecting to execution and continued operation, in a construction and civil engineering project. We also go thru the new structure of provisions, provided by the Work Environment Authority.
We undertake assignments from all over Sweden, both on-site and remotely, and are happy to come to you! We also offer both open courses and customized training. Regardless of the setup, all our sessions are instructor led – for both small and large groups – providing a solid, in-depth, and well-balanced education that delivers knowledge, understanding, and reasoning skills.

Note – the amount of BAS P/U training that is required is determined based on previous knowledge, experience and competence in relation to the scope of the business. BAS P/U may need additional special skills depending on the nature of the business.
Participant recieve the most important provisions in English and other documents in digital form. Bring laptop or tablet to class. We will learn how to search for important information in current provisions.

The work environment is challenging in itself, and during the course we sort out these contexts. The knowledge requirements that the coordinator must fulfill are regulated in many different legal texts and we find out both content and interpretations during the course. BAS PU, the Swedish abbreviation for principal contractor and principal designer, previosly also called CDM-coordinator, indicates either safety coordinator for planning and design, or safety coordinator for the execution phase.
